Founded in the early 2000’s by Dan Whitford – graphic designer, DJ, and fan of new wave and French Touch – Australian band Cut Copy have been on a roll ever since, with their mix of sunny synths, indie guitars, and dancefloor vibes.

Now considered one of the most influential groups on the electro-pop scene, they’ve returned with their seventh album Moments, which rides the same wave as Freeze, Melt, their 2020 release that veered more ambient, towards the kind of wide open spaces that greatly influenced Whitford during an extended stay in Scandinavia.

The beginning of the album is pretty much run-of-the-mill Cut Copy – dreamy synths, funky bass, background guitars. The first three tracks of this short record are highly influenced by Air and Daft Punk.

Yet, an escape plan begins to draw itself out on the single “Solid”, with its muffled beat and mellow synth. The Australians finally make a break for it on the second half of the record, with two tracks clocking in at over seven minutes and the elegant “Moments” and “Gravity” with its cosmic break, before blasting off into the stratosphere with the final track – “Find a Place Among the Stars”.
