There’s reinventing a song, and then there’s giving it a second life with three artists. The Canadian quartet Meltt has teamed up with American Bayonne and the duo New Constellations to deliver “Hesitate (Reimagined),” a reimagined version of their track “Hesitate.” A cross-border collaboration that feels like family—literally, since all three artists are on the same label, Nettwerk.

Let’s start with the hosts. Formed in Vancouver, Meltt—Chris Smith on vocals and guitar, Jamie Turner on drums, James Porter and Ian Winkler on guitar and keyboards—has made genre-bending its trademark: rock, alternative, and psychedelia within a single ecosystem, carried by crystalline melodies and guitars shimmering through the haze. After their debut album, “Swim Slowly,” and its acclaimed successor, “Eternal Embers,” the band with millions of streams is preparing a new album, “Pathways,” of which “Hesitate” is a key track.

The challenge was to get the song out there. To achieve this, Meltt brought together two select labelmates. On one side, Bayonne, aka Roger Sellers, a minimalist composer based in Austin, Texas, renowned for his intricate loops, field recordings, and mesmerizing one-man-band performances. On the other, New Constellations, a Portland-based dream-pop duo formed by childhood friends Harlee Case and Josh Smith, who rose to fame with the viral single “Hot Blooded”—praised by even Pedro Pascal—and whose debut album, “It Comes In Waves,” gracefully navigates between ethereal pop and sunny dance-pop.

Meltt Takes a Double Leap with “Hesitate (Reimagined)” alongside Bayonne and New Constellations

The result? A transformed “Hesitate.” Where the original steered the path of dreamy indie-rock, the reimagined version stretches the material: Bayonne’s textures envelop the melody in an electronic veil, New Constellations’ hushed harmonies warm the chorus, and the song’s message—learning to let go, accepting change, forging a new path—takes on an almost incantatory resonance. This is the art of reinterpretation: the song doesn’t just change its appearance, it changes its season.

This release also confirms what was already obvious: Nettwerk is building one of the most cohesive families in indie pop, between Vancouver, Austin, and Portland. When these artists reach out to each other, it produces gems like “Hesitate (Reimagined).”

At plusfm, this version is already in heavy rotation: it’s exactly the kind of luminous reinterpretation that adds depth to an electronic music lineup, blending finely crafted songwriting with atmospheric textures. Plug in, turn up the volume, and let yourself be carried away — without hesitation — until late into the night.
